The Mark Of pain is a short but vivid tale of Africa in the early twentieth century, centered around the leper colony of Albert Schweitzer, of the the great humanists of his time. Adam Hope is a cynical man, scarred by his experiences in The First World War, who is now trying to eke out a living as a river trader in West Africa. When he meets Dr Schweitzer and plays a major part in saving the colony from an impending disaster, Hope's life is changed forever by the humanity that Schweitzer shows him.
