The Emotions Book : A Little Story About BIG Feelings (Brave Kids Press)
by Liz Fletcher
Help your child self regulate their emotions. The Emotions Books: A Little Story About BIG Feelings teaches emotional control and how to effectively act when faced with strong feelings or challenging circumstances. Throughout this vibrant story, Louie, a brave little elephant, teaches children that when they experience big feelings, their body and mind are simply telling them something; perhaps a hug is needed, or that they need to take a break and breath. Focusing on 4 main emotions: anger, sadness, frustration, and happiness - children will learn to welcome their feelings and listen to them instead of impulsively reacting. Managing big emotions can help children act effectively and solve conflict independently while working their way back to a calm, happy state. The Emotions Book: A Little Story About BIG Feelings is the 5th book in its series and follows the theme of helping children find their inner bravery by navigating change, transitions, and new feelings. The 4 BIG Emotions: Anger: An intense, heightened emotion that can often be overwhelming to children and can lead to negative reactions when not understanding the core reason why their feeling this way. When in a fiery state, children need to learn to stop and breathe before reacting. Calming and self-soothing oneself is an important first step. Sadness: An emotional pain associated with feelings of loss, despair, grief, helplessness, and disappointment. This can be especially hard for a child when they don't have comfort or understanding of why their feeling this way or that it's simply OK to feel sad sometimes. Frustration: An emotional response to conflict or opposition. Frustration can often occur from being unable to solve a problem, experiencing a roadblock, or annoyance. Frustration in a child can often lead to feelings of anger and negative reactions if one does not take caution. Stoping to take a break is often a great why to prevent anger and pivot. Happiness: An emotional state characterized by feelings of satisfaction, joy and fulfillment. When a child is happy, they are often calm and ready to learn. Teaching children techniques like breathing, stopping and realizing the core of their feelings is an important way to get back to feeling happy. About the AuthorLiz has had a passion for art, creativity, and reading since she was a little girl. After graduating with a BA in Graphic Design and Fine Arts from The University of San Francisco, Liz decided she didn't want to work the typical 9-5 pm job. After many business ideas, tears, late nights and too much coffee - she established Brave Kid Press featuring a brave little elephant named Louie. The series was inspired after having her first child as she found it difficult to find books that promoted courage and bravery while transitioning through tough childhood milestones (potty training, eating well, welcoming a new sibling, etc). She wanted her children to find their inner courage to embrace change because it was fun, not because they were being told it was something they had to do. Liz's book series has helped thousands of children across the globe and she hopes that it continues to inspire for a lifetime.Through Brave Kid Press book series, your child will learn:The importance of trying something new.
