Currently the Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Packer became an Assistant to the Twelve in September 1961, and was ordained an apostle in April 1970. He holds a Ph.D. in educational administration and has been supervisor of seminaries and institutes of religion for the Church and president of the New England States Mission.
