“I’m sorry,” I choked out. “I made a mistake. I’ll leave.”

He shut the door. “Not yet.”

“Sir?”

“Out of the goodness of my own heart, I won’t tell Rebecca what you’ve done,” he began, “but you must do me a favor in return.”

I swallowed back the dryness in my throat as understanding flooded through me. What happened to the kind man earlier who sat me on the top step of the stairs? It had only been a few hours ago. There was no humor in his eyes now, only hunger. I recognized it when he began to unbutton the cuffs of his crisp shirt.

“W-what kind of favor?”

“A sexual favor,” he said matter-of-factly. His fingers raced over the buttons of his shirt. He quirked an eyebrow. “Well, aren’t you going to get undressed?”

“Right here?”

“Where else?”

I thought about saying no, but I couldn’t. Nobody said no to Mr. Meyers. Shaking, I slid my shirt over my shoulders, removing one arm at a time. My insides fell away, making me hollow, as I felt his gaze fall on my upper body.
