Gertrude & The Sorcerer's Gold (a funny cozy mystery for animal lovers & treasure seekers)
by Laura Hesse
A cop, a pig, & a sorcerer know all that glitters is gold.
A sorcerer’s hidden stash of gold… A pot-bellied pig and a Jersey cow with a nose for trouble…
A no holds barred treasure hunt… A retired RCMP Sergeant and her partner, a drug sniffing German shepherd afraid of crowds, determined to preserve law and order on an island where no one takes any guff including the blind old lady who just got flashed and the young mother bothered by a ghost in the attic.
That one choice, made by a pot-bellied pig in the heat of the day, the decision to choose Milk Bones over beer, triggered a series of calamitous events that would haunt Seal Island for decades to come.
Gold fever strikes Seal Island when Gertrude, a pot-bellied pig, and her cohort, a Jersey cow named Peaches, set the sleepy island a blaze when they stumble upon a gold coin rumoured to be part of a rogue prophet‘s long lost loot. Only Gertrude, Peaches, and the deceased psychic, know where the treasure is buried and none of them are talking. It’s no holds barred as treasure hunters galore descend upon the quiet little West Coast Island. They will do anything to find the gold. There is nothing that retired RCMP Sgt Betty Bruce can do about it until Betty and Gertrude get caught in the middle of it.
In 1928, cult leader and self-proclaimed prophet, Brother Twelve, and his companion, Madame Z, escaped with hundreds, if not thousands, of double eagle twenty dollar US gold coins, a fortune amassed by swindling the Brother’s followers out of their hard earned savings. They buried cases of glass jars filled with these coins on DeCourcy and Valdez Islands, continuously moving them from one island to another, until the jig was up and the law was hot on their heels. They scuttled their sail boat and escaped in a tugboat, fleeing north up the British Columbia coast. They were never brought to trial. No one knows where all the gold was buried…until now.
Gertrude & the Sorcerer’s Gold is a standalone novel; however, the characters are a continuation from the first three novels in a trilogy: Gumboots, Gumshoes & Murder, The Dastardly Mr Deeds, and Murder Most Fowl. (Please note: the first three novels must be read in order) Chasing Santa is the next and very last novel in the series.
