Easter: Fact or Fiction is designed to get you to ask questions so that you will consider the claims of Jesus. It is written for two primary audiences, the curious skeptic, and the curious Christian. If you are a believer, this book will point you to the glorious biblical truth of the resurrection, and the numerous evidences and reasons to believe that it actually happened. Hopefully, that will not only strengthen your faith, but will enable you to more boldly and biblically share that faith with others.

If you are a curious skeptic, then know that I’ve written much of this book with you in mind. I won’t try to browbeat you into Christianity, nor ridicule you for not having faith. Instead, my hope is that this book will be gently eye-opening, and will open the door for you to consider the claims of Jesus. Though there is no way for anybody on earth to scientifically, beyond a shadow of a doubt, prove (or disprove) that Jesus rose from the dead; the historic fact of the matter is that something significant happened on Passover weekend, A.D. 33. That weekend changed the course of world history – no reasonable historian, scientist, or sociologist would disagree with that statement. The million-dollar question is: What precisely happened during the weekend after Jesus was crucified? Was there a hoax perpetuated that has literally led billions of people astray, or did the most magnificent event imaginable take place? This book seeks to answer the question of whether Easter was a literal fact, or fiction.

Many of these “reasons to believe” are not precisely proofs, but thought experiments, allusions, metaphors, and even parables. Some of them are subtle, others are quite forceful. Some make significant truth claims that must be confronted, and others simply raise important questions to be grappled with. Some are fairly whimsical, some are emotional, and some are very intellectually focused. These reasons to believe are not meant to scientifically prove that Jesus rose from the dead, but to give reasonable evidence for that belief.
